The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) has cautioned that the water levels of the Muhuri and Halda rivers in Feni and Chittagong districts are expected to remain above the danger level, potentially keeping the flood situation in the region unchanged over the next 24 hours.
Similarly, the Gumti River in Comilla may also rise above the danger level, raising concerns about flash floods in surrounding low-lying areas. The water levels of the Manu, Khowai, and Dhalai rivers in Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts are also likely to stay above the danger level, with the flood situation in these areas anticipated to remain steady.
Meteorological forecasts predict medium to heavy rainfall in the southeastern and eastern regions, as well as in the upstream areas, within the next 24 hours. This rainfall is expected to keep the water levels of rivers like Muhuri, Feni, Halda, Sangu, Matamuhuri, and Gumti relatively stable.
In the northeastern regions, including Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrakona, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj, major rivers could see fluctuating water levels due to expected rainfall over the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Ganges rivers are currently receding, while the Padma River remains steady, with further decreases anticipated in the next 48 hours. However, the major rivers in the northeastern and eastern regions continue to show a rising trend.
