A writ petition has been filed with the High Court, requesting an extension of the interim government’s term to three years. The writ, submitted on Monday by Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, Executive Director of the human rights organization Sarda Society, also seeks the removal of officials appointed on a contractual basis during the Awami League government’s tenure. Additionally, the writ calls for a ban on the Awami League and the cancellation of its registration, citing the party’s involvement in the violent crackdown on student protesters during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The petition further requests the renaming of institutions bearing Sheikh Hasina’s name and the repatriation of Tk11 lakh crores allegedly smuggled abroad. The case is expected to be heard by the bench of Justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam.
