The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered the freezing of bank accounts belonging to Sheikh Helal Uddin, former MP and cousin of ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and his son Sheikh Tonmoy, also a former MP. The directive, issued on Monday, extends to the bank accounts of Helal Uddin’s wife, Rupa Chowdhury, and the family’s business entities. Banks and financial institutions across the country have been instructed to freeze these accounts and provide relevant account information within five working days.
