Dhaka metro rail services are set to resume within the next seven days, according to an announcement made by Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan on Sunday. The statement was made during an introductory meeting with ministry officials in Dhaka.
The adviser highlighted a renewed commitment to accelerating development projects across Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for cost-efficient progress that extends beyond Dhaka to previously neglected areas. He stressed the importance of adhering to budget constraints and announced a shift from single-source procurement to competitive tendering to ensure transparency and prevent favoritism.
Khan also addressed the ongoing issues of inadequate parking and traffic congestion in Dhaka, directing that measures be implemented to prevent vehicles from stopping arbitrarily on major roads. Additionally, he underscored the need for development in areas with high pedestrian traffic and called for a change in the perception of high road construction costs in Bangladesh by ensuring contractors are selected based on performance rather than monopolizing contracts.
The adviser also touched on the inefficiencies within the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), sharing his personal experience of a lengthy process to obtain a driving license. He pledged to streamline such procedures to prevent future inconveniences for citizens.
