A violent attack and looting spree at Harashpur railway station in Madhabpur, Habiganj, left over 100 people injured on Friday afternoon. The assailants, reportedly from Bijoynagar in Brahmanbaria district, targeted traders and residents, looting 20 to 30 shops in the area.
The attack, which allegedly stemmed from a dispute over the appointment of an imam at a local mosque in Harashpur, saw the attackers armed with local weapons, causing widespread panic and injuries. Among the injured, Raju Ahmed from Shialuri village and Jamal Mia from Sultanpur village are in critical condition.
Local authorities, including the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police, were deployed to restore order. Faruk Ahmed, chairman of the Dharmanagar Union, condemned the attack as unprecedented, stating that the attackers used the mosque dispute as a pretext to carry out the violence.
