In a bid to prevent the Awami League’s planned “march to Dhanmondi 32” to honor Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, students and members of the general public have occupied the area since midnight. As of Thursday morning, no central Awami League leaders have been seen at Dhanmondi 32.
The protesters, including students and local citizens, have gathered near Metro Shopping Mall, with their presence stretching from the Shukrabad intersection. A significant military presence, supported by police and BGB personnel, has been deployed to maintain law and order.
The protesters are actively monitoring the area, scrutinizing anyone they suspect of being affiliated with the Awami League, particularly those seen wearing black panjabis.
Thursday marks the 49th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who, along with most of his family, was tragically assassinated by a group of disgruntled army members on this day in 1975.
