After a 28-day suspension due to violence during the quota reform movement, intercity train services resumed early Thursday. Engineer Md Saiful Islam, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Eastern Region, confirmed the restart of services.
Bangladesh Railway Director (Public Relations) Md Nahid Hasan Khan had earlier announced on Tuesday that intercity train operations would resume on Thursday, with ticket sales beginning on Monday. However, the Parabat and Jamalpur express trains will remain temporarily suspended, while other intercity trains have resumed normal operations.
Prior to this, mail, express, local, and commuter train services had resumed on Tuesday, with freight trains starting a day earlier. Train services had been significantly reduced since July 18, and completely halted following curfews imposed on July 19. Although limited commuter trains operated from August 1 to 3, a complete suspension of all train services was announced on the night of August 4.
