On Wednesday, a Dhaka Court placed Salman F Rahman, the private industry affairs adviser to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and former law minister Anisul Huq on a 10-day remand each in connection with a murder case linked to the deaths of a student and a vendor during recent student protests near Dhaka College.
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid after police presented the accused in court at around 6:30 PM.
Earlier, law enforcement had requested 10-day remands for both Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq. They were apprehended on Tuesday in Dhaka’s Sadarghat area in relation to the case, which was filed with New Market Police Station concerning the murder of shop employee Shahjahan Ali, 24, on July 16.
According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mainul Hasan, the two were attempting to escape via the waterway. They were intercepted by coast guards in Narayanganj’s Pagla area and handed over to the police, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Coast Guard’s media wing. Court sources indicated that the arrests were made on charges of inciting the killing.
