The interim government has promoted 117 senior assistant secretaries to the rank of deputy secretary, addressing long-standing grievances of officers who claim to have been sidelined by the previous administration. The Ministry of Public Administration issued the promotion order on Tuesday night, with the promotions taking effect retrospectively from various dates between December 2010 and November 2023. These officers, currently designated as officers on special duty (OSD), will receive the salary and allowances associated with their new posts. However, the order also states that the promotions may be revised or revoked if any adverse information surfaces about the officers. Ministry sources indicate that these promotions had been blocked for the past 15 years under the Awami League government. Following the interim government’s assumption of power, the affected officers raised their demands with advisers at the Secretariat on Sunday.
