Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, has resigned from his position, reportedly submitting his resignation on Monday.
Cultural Affairs Secretary Khalil Ahmed confirmed the resignation, stating, “He has submitted his resignation letter.” When asked about the reason, Ahmed mentioned that Lucky resigned due to personal reasons and emerging circumstances.
For a long time, there has been discontent in the cultural arena regarding Lucky’s position as Director General of Shilpakala Academy. Lucky was first appointed as DG on April 7, 2011, and his tenure was last extended for the seventh time on March 29, 2023.
Following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, a group of disgruntled officials and employees locked the rooms of at least 15 officials, including the director general’s office, at Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday. Theatre workers had also called for a protest rally in front of the Academy on Monday. Amid growing protests and demands, Lucky did not report to his office after the fall of the Awami League government.
