Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) authorities have announced an indefinite closure of the institution amid ongoing protests demanding quota reforms in public service, instructing students to vacate their dormitories by 3 pm on Wednesday.
This decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting of the university at 10 am on Wednesday. The public relations office of the university issued the instructions based on the decision of the Ministry of Education.
Despite the closure, the notification stated that the office would remain open as various development works related to the university are ongoing.
However, students of Sust have rejected the decision to leave the campus. Asadullah Al Ghalib, coordinator of the anti-quota student movement at Sust, confirmed the matter on Wednesday afternoon.
“We reject the decision to close the university. None of our students will leave the hall,” he stated.
