Nearly 100 injured individuals were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Monday following violent clashes between Chhatra League members and quota reform activists in the Dhaka University area.
The injured students began arriving at the hospital after 4 pm, and by 5 pm, at least 91 people had sought medical care, according to Prothom Alo.
Inside DMCH, medical staff attended to the injured, while several others waited outside for treatment.
The clashes erupted around 3 pm in front of the university’s Bijoy Ekattor Hall between Chhatra League members and the protesters.
Most of the injured are students from Dhaka University and other educational institutions. The Chhatra League claimed that several of their members were also injured.
Speaking to journalists in front of Dhaka Medical, Socialist Student Front’s General Secretary Rafiquzzaman Farid stated that more than a hundred students injured in the Chhatra League’s attack on those demanding quota reforms had come to Dhaka Medical for treatment. Additionally, many others are receiving treatment at various other hospitals.
Meanwhile, those who brought the injured students to Dhaka Medical were chased away by Chhatra League activists. Around 5:15 pm, a group of BCL activists arrived at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical and drove them away.
Subsequently, chase and counter-chase incidents occurred between BCL activists and protesting students on the street in front of DMCH.
