Dhaka Wasa has paid a fine of Tk13.71 lakh imposed by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) for unauthorized road excavation within the municipality’s jurisdiction.
The fine was collected via two cheques from the contractor hired by Dhaka Wasa.
On Sunday afternoon, the relevant letter and cheques were delivered to the engineering department’s office in DSCC Zone-3. Assistant Engineer Md Ahsan Habib received the letter and cheques from the Dhaka Wasa representative.
On July 8, DSCC seized materials used by the contractor for the unauthorized excavation, which involved a forged signature of Mithun Chandra Shil, the executive engineer of DSCC Zone-3. That night, a complaint was filed against Syed Abu Jafar, the engineer of contractor company System Engineering Ltd, at Lalbagh police station for forgery.
Mithun Chandra Shil issued a letter imposing the fine for the unauthorized road excavation under clause 1.3.5 of the Road Excavation Policy-2019. Dhaka Wasa received the letter on July 9, requesting the fine be deposited into the DSCC excavation fund within three working days. Failure to comply would result in legal action.
Acting on this request, Syed Mostakim Hossain, executive engineer of the Saidabad Water Treatment Plant (Maintenance) Division of Dhaka Wasa, instructed the contractor to pay the fine.
