A legal notice has been issued seeking a ban on holding meetings, rallies, and processions on roads during working days, permitting them only on Fridays.
The notice also calls for legal actions under existing laws against any organization or political party that causes public suffering by blocking roads and obstructing traffic.
Khandaker Hasan Shahriar, a lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court, sent the notice on Sunday.
Respondents to the notice include Md Mahbub Hossain, Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Md Jahangir Alam, Secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bangladesh Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman.
The notice demands that organizations and political parties be prohibited from holding meetings, rallies, or processions, and from using loudspeakers and sound systems on the roads, except on Fridays, to prevent noise pollution and public disruption.
The notice warns that if appropriate actions are not taken within seven days, legal measures will be pursued, including filing a writ petition in the High Court.
It highlights that various organizations, under different banners, have been causing public distress by using force, blocking roads, reducing vehicle speeds, diverting traffic routes, and creating obstructions during vehicle movement, leading to severe traffic congestion and inconvenience. The notice demands an end to these activities.
