Four individuals tragically drowned while bathing in floodwaters in the Melandah upazila of Jamalpur district on Sunday afternoon.
The incident took place around 5 pm in the South Baluchar area under the Shyampur union.
The victims have been identified as Disha Akter, 17, Sadia, 10, Khadiza, 10, and Rokshana, 25.
Local sources reported that Rokshana and four others went to bathe in the floodwaters near their home in the afternoon.
A sudden strong wave swept them away, resulting in their drowning.
A nearby teenage girl witnessed the tragic event and immediately called for help.
Hearing her cries, locals rushed to the scene and discovered the bodies of the four individuals floating in the floodwaters.
Fortunately, one of the individuals, Maria, 12, managed to swim ashore during the incident.
Melandah Police Station Officer-in-Charge Raju Ahmed confirmed the incident.
