The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) has apprehended the mastermind behind a criminal gang involved in the sale of forged academic certificates.
The arrested individual, Abu Zafar, 31, was known for selling fake certificates from City University and America Bangladesh University.
The arrest was made during a raid conducted by the Cyber and Special Crime Department (South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Friday, as confirmed by DMP additional commissioner Harun-or-Rashid on Sunday afternoon.
Harun-or-Rashid, who is also the DB chief, indicated that the racket might have involved IT experts, a former teacher, and an office assistant from America Bangladesh University.
This arrest follows a case filed at Tejgaon Police Station on May 26, based on a complaint by City University Registrar Professor Mir Shaukat Ali.
