Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced that the Prottoy universal pension scheme will take effect on July 1, 2025, instead of this year.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Awami League President’s political office in Dhanmondi on Saturday.
Quader clarified that the earlier information regarding the inclusion of government university teachers in 2024 was incorrect.
“There was confusion about the Prottoy scheme’s start date. The prime minister had stated in parliament that all programs would take effect next year, but there was some confusion over when the Prottoy scheme would begin,” he said.
On the issue of providing super grade to teachers, Quader stated, “We will present the demands and status of public university teachers to the higher authorities and the prime minister. Decisions will be made through subsequent discussions, and we hope for a resolution through these discussions.”
He also mentioned that teachers have been requested to withdraw their work abstention.
After the meeting, teachers said they would make a decision after consulting with their federation leaders.
The meeting started at 11:30 am at the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi office.
A 10-member delegation of teachers, including the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association’s Secretary General Prof Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan and Dhaka University Teachers’ Association General Secretary Prof Zeenat Huda, attended the meeting.
Quader was joined by Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, PM’s advisor on education and culture; Begum Shamsun Naher, state minister for education; Awami League joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim; and Biplab Barua, AL office secretary and special assistant to the PM.
