The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a ban on battery-run autorickshaws and other slow-moving vehicles from operating on Dhaka’s main roads.
DMP Joint Commissioner (Traffic-South) SM Mehedi Hasan shared this update at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre on Saturday, emphasizing that the decision is being enforced in conjunction with legal measures.
“We have started designating smaller roads for these vehicles and have already selected some routes in the Dhanmondi area. These vehicles are no longer permitted on the main roads of Mirpur. Slow-moving vehicles, including autorickshaws, will not be allowed on major roads such as Pragati Sarani and VIP Road. We are coordinating both planning and enforcement,” Hasan stated.
He added that autorickshaws will only be allowed on smaller roads, not major ones, which has led to some confusion among the autorickshaw drivers.
