An accused in a robbery case, Md Jewel, 26, was found hanging in Chandgaon police station, Chittagong, early Wednesday. Jewel, son of Abdul Malek alias Abdul Mabud from Khejurtala, was taken into police custody on Tuesday night.
Zahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Chandgaon police station, stated that CCTV footage revealed Jewel committed suicide by hanging himself from the station’s ventilator with his shirt around 6:30am. Jewel was wanted in seven cases filed with Kotwali police station.
OC Kabir suggested Jewel might have committed suicide due to depression. Jewel’s mother, Minara Begum, and sister, Salma Akter, visited the police station later in the morning.
