The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for consumers.
For the month of July, the price of a 12kg cylinder has been raised by Tk3, setting the new price at Tk1,366.
Last month, the government had reduced the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder by Tk30, bringing it down to Tk1,363 from Tk1,393.
BERC Chairman Nurul Amin announced the new prices during a press conference at the Karwan Bazar BERC office on Tuesday afternoon.
According to BERC, although the import price of LPG remained unchanged, the consumer price increased slightly due to the dollar price.
Under BERC’s new rates, the private LPG price inclusive of value-added tax is fixed at Tk113.86 per kg, up from Tk113.58 last month.
The price of LPG supplied by government companies remains unchanged at Tk690.
The new price of LPG (autogas) for cars is set at Tk62.70 per litre, up from Tk62.53.
Multiple cylinder sizes, ranging from 5.5kg to 45kg, are available in the market.
Apart from household cooking, LPG is used in restaurants, the transport sector, and various industries, with over 99% of the market dominated by the private sector.
Previously, the price of LPG has seen several adjustments. In May, the price of a 12kg cylinder was reduced by Tk49 to Tk1,393 from April’s price. In April, it was reduced by Tk40 to Tk1,442 from March’s price.
On June 3, BERC decided to reduce the price by Tk30, fixing the 12kg cylinder price at Tk1,363.
