To meet the increasing demand for travel between China and Bangladesh, China Southern Airlines will launch a direct flight route from Beijing Daxing International Airport to Dhaka on July 15. The new service, operating twice weekly on Mondays and Saturdays, will establish the first direct air connection between the two capitals.
China Southern Airlines hosted the Dhaka-Beijing launch ceremony at a city hotel in Dhaka. The event was attended by Muhammad Faruk Khan, MP, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Yao Wen, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Bangladesh, who was the guest of honor.
Minister Faruk Khan highlighted China’s role as Bangladesh’s development partner and anticipated increased Chinese investments in the future. He noted that the new direct flight would strengthen trade and economic ties between Dhaka and Beijing. Additionally, he mentioned that around 97% of the Third Terminal construction work had been completed.
Ambassador Yao Wen expressed that the new route would enhance collaboration, people-to-people connectivity, and win-win cooperation between the two countries. Xie Kangjia, General Manager of China Southern Airlines, hoped more Bangladeshi travelers would experience flying with China Southern Airlines.
Other attendees included Air Commodore Sadikur Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), and representatives from Bangladesh Bank, SCB, and leading travel agencies.
The new route, operated by the advanced Airbus A321 Neo aircraft, will provide increased travel options and convenience for passengers traveling between Beijing and Dhaka. The Airbus A321 Neo features 199 seats, including 12 Business Class and 187 Economy Class seats. Initially, China Southern Airlines will operate two weekly flights on this route, with plans to expand to daily operations soon. With the launch of the PKX-DAC route, China Southern Airlines will operate 18 weekly flights between Bangladesh and China, including existing daily flights on the Guangzhou-Dhaka-Guangzhou route.
