Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen confirmed on Thursday that all public hospitals have adequate anti-venom supplies to treat Russell’s Viper bites. He emphasized the importance of promptly taking snakebite victims to a doctor for effective treatment, stating, “Timely medical intervention can fully cure snakebite victims through proper treatment.”
The announcement was made during a seminar titled “Russell’s Viper: Fear versus Facts,” organized by the Bangladesh Society of Medicine at the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall. The event featured notable speakers including State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Rokeya Sultana, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Deen Md Nurul Haque, and Secretary General of Bangladesh Society of Medicine Dr. Ahmedul Kabir.
Dr. Sen urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation about the treatment of Russell’s Viper bites and assured that all relevant organizations are working together to address the issue. He also directed all public hospitals to maintain an adequate stock of anti-venom and called for a mass awareness campaign to educate people on proper steps to save lives from Russell’s Viper bites.
