The Sylhet district administration has reopened popular tourist destinations, including Jaflong, Ratargul Swamp Forest, and Tanguar Haor, following a significant improvement in the flood situation.
Tourists, tour operators, and boatmen are instructed to follow administrative guidelines to ensure safety and order.
The Upazila Tourism Committee decided to reopen these sites based on favorable weather conditions in the district.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Saidul Islam from the Gowainghat upazila administration led an inspection team to Jaflong on Friday and Saturday to evaluate the area’s readiness.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Touhidul Islam has directed boat owners and operators in Gowainghat to provide adequate life jackets for all passengers.
Despite concerns over river levels, data from the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) indicates that the Surma and Kushiyara rivers are still above danger levels at various points. However, no rainfall was recorded in Sylhet on Sunday, according to the latest BWDB bulletin.
Tourist police have been deployed at all reopened spots to enforce security and safety measures, ensuring a secure environment for visitors. Additionally, children under the age of 12 are prohibited from traveling by boat in Jaflong, with tourist police ensuring compliance.
The tourist spots, initially closed on Tuesday due to worsening flood conditions, were reopened following recent improvements under the direction of Sylhet Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mobarak Hossain.
Previously, the Upazila Tourist Development Committee decided on May 30 to close all tourist spots during the initial phase of flooding, with these locations reopening on June 7.
