The Omani government has committed to legalizing 96,000 undocumented Bangladeshi workers.
Additionally, Oman has offered to employ Bangladeshi workers in 12 different categories.
State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Employment, Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury, shared this update with reporters at his office on Tuesday.
The state minister recently toured Dubai, Oman, and Qatar to address labor market concerns.
“There are 96,000 Bangladeshi workers residing in Oman illegally. The Omani government has assured us of their legalization. We have also requested a waiver of penalties for these illegal workers,” he stated.
Regarding the labor market in the United Arab Emirates, the state minister mentioned a meeting with Dubai businessmen to enhance market dynamics.
Dubai has already requested 3,000 workers. So far, 400 workers have departed from Bangladesh, with 500 more awaiting departure, he added.
