Government employees will enjoy a five-day holiday for Eid-ul-Azha, spanning from June 14 to 18. The sighting of the moon on Friday evening in Bangladesh marked the start of the Arabic month of Zilhaj on Saturday, setting Eid-ul-Azha for June 17, the 10th of Zilhaj.
Public holidays have been declared for June 16, 17, and 18. Since June 14 and 15 fall on the weekend, the holiday period extends further. Government employees will start their leave on June 14 and return to work on June 19.
According to the Ministry of Public Administration, Eid-ul-Azha is a general holiday, with additional holidays before and after Eid designated for government officials by executive order. During this period, many people travel from Dhaka to their hometowns to celebrate with family and friends.
It is expected that numerous government employees will begin their leave on Thursday to facilitate timely travel for the Eid celebrations. Regular office hours will resume on June 19, with officials working from 9 am to 5 pm as usual.
