Mercantile Bank PLC has forged a new partnership with Mastercard, obtaining a principal membership licence from the global payment technology leader. This collaboration is set to elevate the bank’s card services, integrating advanced technology and expanding their global reach.
Syed Mohammad Kamal, Mastercard’s country manager, officially handed over the licence to Morshed Alam, MP, chairman of Mercantile Bank, during a ceremony at the bank’s head office. The event featured a welcome speech by Md Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, the bank’s managing director.
With this new licence, Mercantile Bank can now offer enhanced payment facilities to its customers worldwide, complementing its existing VISA card services. Customers will benefit from seamless ATM and POS transactions globally wherever Mastercard is accepted.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Akram Hossain (Humayun) and Md. Abdul Hannan, vice chairmen; MA Khan Belal, chairman of the executive committee; Md Anwarul Haq, chairman of the risk management committee; ASM Feroz Alam, chairman of Mercantile Bank Securities Ltd; M Amanullah, chairman of Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Limited; Mosharref Hossain and Mohammad Abdul Awal, directors; Jalal Hossain Khan, shareholder; Mati Ul Hasan, AMD and Zakia Sultana, director, Mastercard.
Also present were senior bank officials including Md Zakir Hossain, Adil Raihan, Shamim Ahmed, and Ashim Kumar Saha, deputy managing directors; CFO Tapash Chandra Paul; Shah Md Sohel Khurshid and Mohammad Iqbal Rezwan, SEVPs; and Mostafizur Rahman, head of card division and digital banking & innovation division.
