The fourth phase of Bangladesh’s sixth Upazila Parishad Election will take place on Wednesday across 60 upazilas in 26 districts.
Voting will begin at 8am and continue until 4pm without any breaks.
A total of 721 candidates are competing for 180 positions in 60 Upazila Parishads, including 251 for chairman, 265 for vice chairman, and 205 for women vice chairman (reserved) posts.
According to the Election Commission’s factsheets, 1.44 crore voters (exactly 1,43,57,820) are registered across 5,144 polling stations in the 60 upazilas. Electronic voting machines will be used in six upazilas, while traditional ballot papers will be used in the rest.
The Election Commission announced the schedule for the third phase of the Upazila Parishad polls on April 24.
A security team of 17-19 members will guard each polling station in plain districts, while a team of 19-21 members will protect polling stations in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and very remote areas.
The sixth Upazila Parishad election is being conducted in four phases. Elections in some 450 upazilas out of the country’s 495 upazilas have been scheduled. The first phase was held on May 8 in 139 upazilas, the second phase on May 21 in 156 upazilas, and the third phase on May 29 in 90 upazilas.
