A one-and-a-half-year-old child, Rezuan, died at Monno Medical College and Hospital in Manikganj on Sunday after being denied treatment due to an unpaid bill of Tk 3,000. Rezuan, son of Sohel Gazi from Shibalaya upazila, was admitted with breathing problems early Saturday morning.
On Sunday, doctors referred Rezuan to Dhaka for better treatment, but his family was unable to pay the hospital bill and was detained by hospital authorities. Rezuan’s uncle, Abu Hossain, alleged that the delay in treatment caused the child’s condition to worsen, leading to his death.
The incident sparked a protest by Rezuan’s relatives inside the hospital. Dr. Md Jahangir Alam, Director of Monno Medical College and Hospital, stated that an investigation would be conducted and appropriate action taken. Ghior police station’s officer-in-charge, Sukumar Biswas, confirmed that legal action would follow after the investigation.
