State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Chowdhury announced that 16,970 workers failed to go to Malaysia.
During a press conference at the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment on Sunday afternoon, the minister shared that the ministry had approved 526,676 individuals for overseas employment by May 31. Of these, 493,642 received clearance from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET).
“According to our information, 476,672 people have gone to Malaysia so far. Therefore, approximately 16,970 people could not go,” Chowdhury added.
To address this issue, the ministry has formed a six-member investigation committee to investigate the reasons behind these workers’ inability to depart. The inquiry committee is expected to report its findings and make recommendations within seven days.
Additionally, Ministry Secretary Ruhul Amin mentioned that only those with advanced tickets had been given approval since May 24.
