Chittagong Port, Bangladesh’s premier seaport, partially resumed operations on Monday noon after a two-day suspension due to Cyclone Remal. Activities such as handling containers at jetties and yards and transporting goods have restarted, although no vessels have docked at the jetties yet. Port secretary Omar Faruq stated that ships had not arrived from the outer anchorage due to adverse weather, but operations could begin if ships arrive soon. Administrative and internal port activities resumed at noon. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) had initially issued danger signal number 6 on Saturday night, prompting the port to activate Alert-3 and suspend cargo handling. On Sunday morning, the BMD escalated to danger signal number 9, and the port raised Alert-4, halting all port activities and sending ships to the deep sea. Additionally, the Bangabandhu Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River was reopened on Monday after an 18-hour closure to avoid cyclone damage.
