Cyclone Remal began crossing the coasts of Bangladesh and West Bengal on Sunday night, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The cyclone’s eye started moving over the West Bengal coast and Khepupara coast in Bangladesh near Mongla around 8pm, stated Shamim Ahsan, deputy director of the Cyclone Warning Centre. The full crossing process is expected to take five to seven hours, as per meteorologist Dr. Abul Kalam Mallik. By 6pm, the severe cyclonic storm was located about 310km west-southwest of Chittagong port and Cox’s Bazar port, and approximately 145km south of Mongla port. Heavy rains and strong winds have already begun affecting all coastal districts, noted BMD Director Md Azizur Rahman.
