Cyclonic storm Remal has significantly improved Dhaka’s air quality, resulting in an AQI score of 49 at 9am on Sunday, classifying the air as “moderate.” This marks a considerable improvement from Saturday’s “unhealthy” AQI score of 132. The AQI, which reports daily air quality based on pollutants like particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone, indicates the degree of cleanliness or pollution in the air and its potential health impacts. While Dhaka often struggles with poor air quality, particularly in winter, the influence of Cyclone Remal has brought a temporary reprieve. Other cities like Delhi, Jakarta, and Lahore currently have much higher AQI scores, highlighting ongoing global air quality challenges.
