Premier Group and Premier Bank Foundation, established by Dr. HBM Iqbal, have received approval to commence educational programs at Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology in Bashgari, Kishoreganj (Bhairab).
Dr. Iqbal, the founder chairman, will lay the foundation stone and plans to invite Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to inaugurate the university, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards establishing a permanent campus.
The university has begun the admission process for the Summer Session (July 2024).
To celebrate, Sheikh Hasina University of Science & Technology organized a reception and live concert for students who excelled in the HSC or equivalent exam of 2023 and the SSC or equivalent exam of 2024.
The event was graced by HBM Lutfur Rahman, trustee board member of the university, as the chief guest, and HBM Shoave Rahman, trustee board member, as a special guest. Other notable attendees included Syed Nowsher Ali, acting managing director and CEO of Premier Bank PLC; Nasim Sekandar, additional managing director of the bank; Niamat Uddin Ahmed, deputy managing director of the bank; Mohammad Golam Hossain Sarkar, brigadier general (retd) and advisor to Z Rahman Premier Bank School & College; Iftekhar Hossain Benu, mayor of Bhairab Municipality; Abdus Salam Shahriar, chairman of Gajaria Union; Dr. Emdadul Islam, adviser to the university and researcher at Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan; Dr. Bijon Kumar Mitra, deputy managing director at the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies, Japan; Prof. Dr. Kozo Watanabe of Ehime University, Japan; Prof. Anwar Hossain of Dhaka University and proposed Vice Chancellor of the university; Prof. Profullo Chandra Sarkar, adviser to the university; and Md. Tareq Uddin, EVP and head of brand marketing and communications at Premier Bank PLC, along with other local business leaders and dignitaries.
Dr. HBM Iqbal, a scholar, successful businessman, politician, and social worker, established Dr. Iqbal Education World in Bashgari to promote education in the region.
Spanning 300 acres and in development for nine years, Dr. Iqbal Education World will host Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology, a Medical College and Hospital, Polytechnic Institute, Engineering Degree College, Nursing Degree College, Sports Academy, and other educational institutions, serving nearly 45,000 students.
This educational complex will offer both local and international students high-quality education in a modern and welcoming environment.
Z Rahman Premier Bank School and College has already been established within the complex, alongside a branch of Premier Bank PLC.
Dr. HBM Iqbal, a former member of Bangladesh Awami League, is also the founder chairman of Premier Bank PLC, one of the top private commercial banks in the country, and chairman of the board of trustees of Royal University of Dhaka.
