Parul Begum, a resident of Tanore Upazila in Rajshahi, attempted suicide after failing to retrieve Tk2 lakh she had deposited in the local post office.
The incident occurred around 12pm on Thursday. Parul, who is the widow of Enamul Hasan Roni from Gokul village, expressed her distress: “It’s been five years and seven months since I deposited Tk2,00,000 in the post office. The money has disappeared. My husband died of blood cancer, and I have an orphan child. My daughter, who is six months pregnant, needed the money in November, and I promised Tk1,00,000 to my son-in-law in December. I’ve been trying to get my money back for six months, but they keep ignoring me.”
Police sources revealed that money deposited by 300 customers, including Parul, at the Tanore post office has vanished. This wasn’t Parul’s first suicide attempt at the post office due to this.
