The highly anticipated “Beximco Xcel Boxing Championship 3.0,” the largest boxing event in Bangladesh, is set to take place this Saturday. Organized by Xcel Sports Management and Promotions, this event marks the third successful installment of the championship series.
The grand tournament will be hosted at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka, starting at 4pm and concluding at midnight. This year’s championship will feature top-tier boxers from France, Iran, India, Tanzania, and China, competing against Bangladeshi contenders.
A total of 11 bouts will occur across various boxing divisions, including Bantamweight, Featherweight, Super Lightweight, Minimum Weight, Welter, Super Middle, Super Fly, and Super Welterweight categories.
The highlight of the event will be Bangladeshi boxer Utshob Ahmed’s fight for the prestigious WBC belt, a title once contended for by legends like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson. Under the supervision of the WBC, Utshob will compete for the WBC Asia Silver Super Flyweight Title against India’s top super flyweight boxer, Mazhar Hussain.
Adding to the excitement, Bangladeshi boxing star and ABF Super Lightweight Intercontinental Champion Sura Krishna Chakma will face Chinese boxer Biao Liu in the lightweight category.
Adnan Haroon, chairman of the Bangladesh Boxing Foundation, expressed pride in the global recognition of Bangladeshi boxing. He believes that the inclusion of a WBC fight in this year’s tournament will inspire potential Bangladeshi boxers to strive for global boxing success.
The event will also feature rare women’s fight rounds. New Bangladeshi boxers Naushin Tasnim and Rima Sarkar will compete in the featherweight category, while Sanjiada Jannat and debutant Rubina Akhter will compete in the minimum weight division. Additionally, Indian boxer Asha Roka will face Tanzanian boxer Lulu Kayage.
The championship will kick off with a six-round bantamweight bout between Bangladeshi boxers Mohammad Easin and Shihab. Other notable matches include Lalkhawm Sang vs. Ratan Kumar in the super lightweight category, Moksadul Rana vs. French boxer Thomas Guillemette in the welter category, and Amranul Faysal vs. Hossain in the minimum weight division. Emon Tongchangya will fight Iranian boxer Mahdi Sarbaz in the super middle category, while French boxer Florent Dervis and Indian boxer Abhishek Sharma will compete in the super welter division.
