The Pure Food Court has mandated the removal of all SMC Plus electrolyte drinks from the market.
Tanveer Sinha, owner of ACME Agrovet and Beverages Ltd., which produces SMC Plus orange and lemon-flavored electrolyte drinks, has been fined Tk16,00,000.
The order was issued by Pure Food Court Judge Alaul Akbar on Sunday. This follows a case filed on Tuesday by Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) Inspector Mohammad Kamrul Hasan against five companies for selling unauthorized and potentially harmful electrolyte drinks.
The court summoned the owners of SMC Plus, Pran’s Aktive+ Electrolyte Drink, Brüvana, Recharge Electrolyte Drink, and Turbo Energy Drink.
Tanveer Sinha appeared in court, pleaded guilty, and sought bail, stating, “We were unaware that the product lacked a license.”
The court confirmed the fine and the withdrawal order, as stated by BFSA Inspector Kamrul Hasan.
