Despite the overall success rate of 83.04% in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, the stark reality persists for 51 educational institutions, including schools and madrasahs, where not a single student managed to pass. This number marks a marginal increase from 48 schools in 2023, 50 in 2022, and 18 in 2021, reflecting a concerning trend in academic performance. Despite a slight uptick in the total number of educational institutes, from 29,714 in 2023 to 29,861 in 2024, the total examination centers saw a slight decline from 3,810 in 2023 to 3,799 in 2024. While 182,129 students secured a perfect grade point average (GPA) of 5, representing a slight decrease from the previous year, the broader landscape of academic achievement demands a critical examination of the underlying factors contributing to these persistently low pass rates. Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury’s presentation of the results summary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina underscores the significance of addressing these challenges to ensure equitable access to quality education for all students. With the academic journey of over 2 million students under scrutiny, the education sector must strive for continuous improvement and targeted interventions to uplift struggling institutions and promote academic excellence across the board.
