Rajshahi’s bustling markets are gearing up for the influx of mangoes starting Wednesday, signaling the onset of harvesting, storage, and marketing operations for this beloved fruit. Under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed, discussions held on Sunday finalized the schedule for mango marketing activities, ensuring a systematic rollout. Strict measures have been put in place to deter premature marketing, with Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed warning of stringent legal repercussions for violators. Recognizing Rajshahi’s status as the “mango state,” efforts have been intensified to safeguard the integrity of mango sales, including collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture to oversee storage, preservation, and marketing protocols. The marketing of various indigenous mango varieties is slated to commence from May 15, with a meticulous timetable established for subsequent varieties. Notable mentions include Gopal Bhog, Rani Pasand, and Lakshmanbhog from May 25, followed by Khirsapat (Himsagar) from May 30, and Langra from June 10, among others. Authorized stakeholders, including mango growers, orchard owners, farmers, and traders, have been granted the green light to engage in harvesting and marketing endeavors. Furthermore, enthusiasts can relish Katimon and Bari mango-11 varieties throughout the year, ensuring a steady supply of mango delights beyond the traditional season. With these preparations underway, Rajshahi anticipates a vibrant mango season ahead, catering to the discerning tastes of mango aficionados far and wide.
