In a significant stride towards enhancing Bangladesh’s power infrastructure, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd (PGCB) has announced the successful commissioning of three new transmission lines, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s energy sector. The PGCB unveiled this development through a press release on Saturday, underscoring the strategic significance of these additions to the country’s power grid. Notably, the newly operational Karerhat—Chaumuhani 230KV Four-Circuit Transmission Line, powered by the Chaumuhani grid substation, was activated at 1 pm on Saturday, bolstering the network’s capacity to efficiently transmit electricity. Preceding this, the Chowmuhani-Kachua 230KV Four Circuit Transmission Line and Chowmuhoni-Maizdi 230KV Double Circuit Transmission Line were energized from the Chowmuhoni grid substation on Friday at 10 am, further fortifying the grid’s resilience and reach. These meticulously constructed lines, spanning lengths of 53km, 50km, and 20km respectively, are poised to play a pivotal role in augmenting electricity transmission across the national grid, amplifying its overall capacity to meet the burgeoning energy demands. Funded through the Enhancement and Strengthening of Power Transmission Network in Eastern Region Project (ESPTNER), a collaborative effort involving the World Bank, the Government of Bangladesh, and PGCB, these initiatives underscore Bangladesh’s commitment to fostering sustainable energy infrastructure and ensuring reliable power supply for its citizens.
