Bangladesh Railway is gearing up to inaugurate its highly anticipated Special Mango Train service on June 10th, marking the fifth consecutive year of this seasonal operation. Designed to facilitate the transportation of mangoes from Chapainawabganj and Rajshahi to Dhaka, this specialized train service promises efficient and timely delivery of the beloved fruit to urban markets. Notably, this year’s service will chart a new course, traversing the iconic Padma Bridge, symbolizing progress and connectivity for the nation. The announcement was made during a seminar held at the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office, with Railways Minister Zillul Hakim presiding as the chief guest, reaffirming the government’s commitment to bolstering agricultural commerce through strategic transport initiatives. The Special Mango Train will embark on its journey from Chapainawabganj at 4 PM, arriving in Dhaka at 2:15 AM, with scheduled stops at key stations en route. With transparent fare structures ranging from Tk1.47 per kilogram from Chapainawabganj to Tk0.98 per kilogram from Bhanga, the service aims to support mango farmers and traders while fostering economic growth in rural communities. Reflecting on past success, West Bangladesh Railway General Manager Asim Kumar Talukder expressed determination to sustain the service despite operational challenges, underscoring its significance for local economies. Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to incentivize mango cultivation to mitigate losses and maximize the train’s impact on agricultural livelihoods.
