In a significant move towards fostering gender equality and inclusive development, the Department of Women Affairs (DWA) under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Bangladesh, has forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The MoU, formalized by Keya Khan, Director General of DWA, and Sudhir Muralidharan, Country Manager of UNOPS Bangladesh, sets the stage for collaborative efforts aimed at advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive development initiatives across Bangladesh. This partnership underscores the shared commitment of both entities to drive positive change in the realm of gender equality and inclusive development.
The signing ceremony, held at the DWA office, marks a pivotal moment in collaborative endeavors to empower women and foster sustainable development. This initiative aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goal 5 of Agenda 2030, dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women in Bangladesh.
Keya Khan emphasized the significance of the partnership, highlighting Bangladesh’s strides in empowering women, from achieving gender parity in education to witnessing increased female labor force participation rates. She expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts with UNOPS, envisioning a future where every woman and girl in Bangladesh can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.
Sudhir Muralidharan emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges hindering women’s full participation in society, affirming UNOPS’s commitment to supporting women’s economic empowerment, education, healthcare, and overcoming societal barriers.
