Following the tragic fire incident at the Green Cozy Cottage shopping mall on Bailey Road in Dhaka, which claimed the lives of 46 individuals on February 29, the owner of “Kacchi Bhai” restaurant, Sohel Siraj, faced legal action.
A Dhaka Court, presided over by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque, granted a two-day police remand for Sohel Siraj in connection with the case. This decision came after the investigation officer, Inspector Masud Parvez from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), appealed for a five-day remand.
Sohel Siraj was apprehended at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka upon his return from Malaysia, where immigration police intercepted him. He was subsequently handed over to the CID for further investigation.
Sohel Siraj had absconded from the country immediately after the fire broke out at his restaurant on Bailey Road, leading to widespread public outcry.
With this latest arrest, the total number of individuals detained in connection with the tragic incident has risen to seven.
The fire, which engulfed the building housing “Kacchi Bhai” and several other eateries, resulted in the loss of 46 lives, including women and children.
On March 1, Mohammad Shahidul Islam, a sub-inspector of Ramna Model Police Station, filed a case against Amin Mohammad Group and three others, alleging charges of negligence leading to death and attempted murder.
