In an effort to enhance accessibility to essential goods at subsidized rates, State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu announced on Tuesday that the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is poised to inaugurate permanent shops for sales from July onwards.
During his address at the launch event for distributing essential products to 10 million family cardholders in Norda-Baridhara area, the state minister emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining a steady supply of essential commodities at reasonable prices, aiming to prevent market manipulation.
Titu urged local public representatives to facilitate TCB’s operations through permanent shops, enabling people to conveniently purchase goods. Highlighting recent efforts, he cited the import of onions from India during Ramadan via TCB to stabilize prices and ensure affordability for consumers.
With a focus on accountability, Titu emphasized periodic updates to the eligibility list for TCB purchases and outlined plans to expand the range of products available through TCB channels.
Under the current scheme, TCB is providing 5kg of rice at Tk30 per kg, 2-litre soybean oil at Tk100 per liter, and 2kgs of lentils at Tk60 per kg for May 2024, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on consumers.
