The Bangladesh Secondary Assistant Teachers’ Association has announced a one-hour work abstention in protest against the government’s directive to keep all schools open on Saturdays.
Scheduled for May 11 from 10am to 11am, this program will be observed nationwide at secondary-level educational institutions, as detailed in a press release issued by the association on Monday night.
Mohammad Yasin, vice-president of the organization, confirmed that the decision was made during an online meeting held on May 4. The association has urged teachers and staff across all secondary school levels to participate in the one-hour work abstention as a form of protest.
Furthermore, leaders emphasized in the statement that if the government does not retract its decision, they will escalate their protest with more stringent measures, potentially including full-day work abstentions every Saturday.
