Chuadanga, amidst scorching temperatures across the nation, hit a high of 43°C on Monday, marking its hottest day in a decade. Jaminur Rahman, overseeing the Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre, confirmed the record-breaking temperature, emphasizing the likelihood of further escalation as the day progresses. This marks the highest temperature recorded in Chuadanga over the past 10 years, surpassing the previous high of 43.2°C registered on May 21, 2014.
The district has been grappling with extreme heat since mid-April, disrupting daily routines. Despite forecasts indicating minimal chances of rainfall in the next two days, the mercury is expected to either rise or maintain its current levels. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, very severe heatwaves are engulfing Jessore and Rajshahi districts, with severe heatwaves affecting parts of Khulna division, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Naogaon, Pabna, and Nilphamari districts. Mild to moderate heatwaves are prevalent in Barisal division, portions of Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Rangpur divisions, as well as Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, and Bandarban districts.
