China has expressed a keen interest in importing mangoes from Bangladesh this year, according to Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen. During discussions with Agriculture Minister Dr. Md Abdus Shahid, Ambassador Yao Wen revealed plans for an expert delegation from China to visit Bangladesh, focusing on exploring mango orchards and production facilities in early June.
The approval for mango exports will hinge on the findings of the Chinese delegation, as Bangladesh seeks to leverage this opportunity for agricultural trade expansion. Additional Secretary Moloy Chowdhury and Joint Secretary Md Mahmudur Rahman also participated in the discussions, highlighting Bangladesh’s eagerness for Chinese investment in the agriculture sector.
Minister Dr. Shahid emphasized the need for modernization and mechanization in agriculture, underscoring the potential for collaboration with China to provide farmers access to affordable agricultural machinery.
Meanwhile, discussions between the agriculture minister and the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Irma van Dueren, emphasized mutual cooperation in agriculture. The Netherlands government’s initiative to construct an onion storage facility in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka was also highlighted, with its inauguration scheduled for May 2. This storage facility will bolster onion preservation efforts and contribute to Bangladesh’s self-sufficiency in onion production.
With mango exports to China on the horizon and collaborative efforts with the Netherlands in onion storage, Bangladesh’s agricultural sector is poised for growth and enhanced international partnerships. Stay tuned for further developments in agricultural trade and cooperation.
