The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issues a warning indicating that the prevailing mild to moderate heatwave, affecting 25 regions, is likely to extend its grip to additional areas.
Currently, a mild to moderate heatwave envelops the Barisal division and parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Dhaka divisions, along with districts including Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noahkali, Feni, and Bandarban. This heatwave is expected to persist for another three days.
Additionally, a severe heatwave grips the Khulna division and districts such as Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Rajshahi, Pabna, Faridpur, and Gopalgonj.
Day and night temperatures are anticipated to remain relatively stable across the country. Despite a slight decrease in temperature in some regions like Dhaka, the oppressive heat persists due to high levels of water vapor in the atmosphere.
The second phase of heat alerts is underway, covering the capital and divisional cities.
Rainfall remains scarce, with only 2mm recorded in Chuadanga over the last 24 hours. Increased moisture incursion indicates that discomfort may persist.
The BMD forecasts rain, thunder showers, and temporary gusty winds in one or two places across Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, with isolated instances of hail over the next three days.
Wednesday saw the highest temperature recorded at 41.6°C in Mongla, Bagerhat. Other districts like Chuadanga, Jessore, and Ishwardi in Pabna also experienced scorching temperatures, reaching 41.2°C.
Meanwhile, Dhaka recorded a high of 39.2°C on Wednesday, marginally lower than previous days but still maintaining a persistent heatwave.
Explaining the situation, Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick highlighted prolonged sunlight exposure and low air circulation as contributing factors. Despite slight temperature drops due to increased moisture content, the sensation of heat remains consistent across the country.
