In a significant development, the Election Commission (EC) has unveiled the schedule for elections to 55 upazilas, slated for June 5 in the 4th phase. Following a decisive meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam announced the much-awaited schedule at Agargaon’s Nirbachan Bhaban on Tuesday.
Key Highlights of the Election Schedule
According to the outlined schedule:
- The deadline for submission of nomination papers has been set for May 9, with scrutiny scheduled for May 12.
- Appeals against the decisions of returning officers can be lodged from May 13 to 15, with resolutions to follow from May 16 to 18.
- Candidates have until May 19 to withdraw their nominations, and symbols will be allotted on May 20.
Hybrid Voting Method
EC Secretary Jahangir Alam revealed that electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be deployed in two upazilas, while traditional ballots will be utilized in the remaining 53 upazilas. This hybrid approach aims to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process, catering to diverse electoral needs.
