Nepal, with its visa-upon-arrival policy, has become an unwitting channel for human trafficking into Europe, raising alarm bells at the Bangladesh embassy in Kathmandu.
Concerns voiced by the embassy have prompted action from the Ministry of Home Affairs, directing law enforcement agencies to crack down on this nefarious route of exploitation.
Sources within the Security Services Department reveal a surge in cases involving Bangladeshi nationals falling prey to trafficking rings, particularly active in regions like Comilla and Noakhali.
Exploiting the ease of visa acquisition in Nepal, these criminal syndicates pose as tourist agents, trapping victims with false promises of employment abroad. Victims are coerced, extorted, and subjected to captivity, their passports seized until ransom is paid.
A recent meeting chaired by Shahnara Khatun, additional secretary of the Security Services Department, emphasized the need for public awareness and stringent legal measures against trafficking networks. The Immigration Department was tasked with scrutinizing travelers bound for Nepal while law enforcement agencies intensified surveillance and apprehension efforts.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officials revealed ongoing missions to dismantle trafficking networks exploiting Nepal’s transit routes, affirming their commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice.
The battle against human trafficking continues, with efforts underway to safeguard innocent lives and uphold the integrity of international travel.
