As soaring temperatures grip Bangladesh, icddr,b and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) have teamed up to release crucial health guidelines aimed at minimizing heat-related health risks.
The scorching heatwave across Bangladesh has led to various health concerns, including dehydration, severe headaches, sleeplessness, and muscle pains. Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with disabilities or underlying health conditions face heightened risks.
To combat heatstroke and related ailments, the public is advised to stay indoors whenever possible, shield themselves from the sun with umbrellas or caps, wear light-colored cotton clothing, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activities during the day. Regular monitoring of urine color and prompt medical consultation if symptoms arise are also emphasized.
With temperatures soaring above 40°C in many areas, the DGHS has urged citizens to utilize telemedicine services by calling 16263 if they experience any heat-related symptoms within 24 hours.
As the nation grapples with extreme heat, vigilance and adherence to these guidelines are crucial to safeguarding public health.
